FAQs

1. What's the best way to wash and dry my linen?

We recommend washing your new linen before sleeping in it.  Wash in cold or warm water using a non-harsh detergent.  Line drying is preferable, however if tumble drying, use a low-heat, delicate setting.  Once dry (or almost dry), remove from dryer to prevent unnecessary abrasion.  Please ensure you have selected the right size and colour, as we cannot accept returns once sheets have been washed.  For more detailed information regarding washing, drying  and caring for your sheets please read our Caring For Your Linen page.

2.  What is the weight of your linen?

Cotton is measured by thread count, however linen is measured by weight in GSM or grams per square metre.  Our linens range from 165-170 GSM, which we have found over the years to be the optimum weight for durability, comfort and trans-seasonal use.

3. How long should my sheets last?

Your sheets should last many years with normal use and wash and if cared for correctly, however please keep in mind our sheets undergo pre-softening processes to ensure they are lush and soft from the first time you sleep in them, which may reduce the lifespan of your sheets.   Without pre-softening processes linen can feel quite rough and uncomfortable to sleep in.

Whilst linen is durable and twice as strong as cotton, it is still susceptible to wear and tear and damage from incorrect care.  Fitted sheets, due to bodyweight and friction can show faster wear than other items such as flat sheets and quilt covers.  We recommend rotating your sheets with other sets to preserve the fibres and lengthen the lifespan of your sheets.

4. Where are your sheets made?

Linen is one of many products that originates from the Flax crop, a plant species cultivated in the cooler climate regions of Western Europe.  Our flax is sourced from the fields of France and Belgium where it is grown and harvested.  Through a laborious process, thread is produced from the elongated cellulose fibres that grow inside the stalks of the flax plant.  These fibres are shipped to our manufacturing partners in China where the linen fabric is produced.  We only work with factories that are Oeko-Tek Standard 100 certified, meaning textiles and fabrics produced are certified free of harmful chemicals and deemed safe for human use.  The certification also ensures the plant abides by ethical work standards and any chemicals used during the manufacturing process are disposed of correctly and according to law.  We visit our factories regularly and see the fine craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into every item stitched in safe and ethically run working environments.
